Technical Problem ID’ed, Still Not Resolved

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

OK. It seems that my site is currently incompatible with Internet Explorer, which is why we’ve had so many problems in that browser. If my hosting company can’t get that fixed, I may have to move to another company.

I will keep you posted on those developments. I’m told this can be done while keeping the same web address and hopefully not losing any info in the process.

So Here’s the Problem

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

After some more fiddling about with the site, it seems to boil down to this: People using Internet Explorer can’t comment. Obviously, since that’s the browser an overwhelming majority of people use, this is a problem and people with much more tech savvy than me are currently working on it.

BSW Citizen, Now With Fewer 406 Errors

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

As I mentioned on a comment thread, I did a number of things to the site including upgrading to Wordpress 2.9. I am unsure which, if any, allowed us to be able to post comments again.

With computers, I’m sure another issue will crop up soon enough. But I’ll focus on the right now. Right now, we’re going to look back at some of the stories that captivated us over the past year. I wanted to be sure folks could comment on those “Year in Review” stories before I posted them.

The timing isn’t what I had hoped for, as I am out of town on business starting tomorrow morning. Through the magic of pre-arranged posts I will still have some goodies for you, but I won’t be able to put out any 406 error fires that may erupt while I’m gone.

Other than that, enjoy yourselves. Homer’s in charge while I’m away.

Bell Calls Out Buccaneers

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

One thing’s for certain. Even when out of the NFL, Tatum Bell knows how to make headlines. Bell has gone on record saying his United Football League team, the undefeated Florida Tuskers, could beat the NFL’s winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

When given a potential score of 24-14, the DeSoto High alum said the Tuskers would score more than 24 and hold Tampa Bay to less than 14.

“I think that’s how confident we are as a team,” Bell said. “We feel like we can go out there and play with some of the best of them. There’s a lot of savvy vets that have a lot to prove to everyone. I think that’s what also makes the talent in the league so high, everyone is trying to prove something.”

It’s a shame this game would never, ever happen. I’d love to see them play it and donate the money (not that there would be a lot of it made) to charity. Bell, a lot of his teammates and Tuskers coach Jim Haslett were all in the league a year or two ago. If anything, the Tuskers’ talent level is probably close to that of a bad NFL team and the Bucs certainly fit that description.

What do you think, readers? Could Bell and his Tusker brethren beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Cleveland Browns or some other NFL team?

Elba Garcia Poised for Campaign Announcement

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

Former Dallas City Councilwoman Dr. Elba Garcia is planning a big announcement 6 p.m. Nov. 4 at DeCorazon Gallery in the historic Bishop Arts District.

It’s not exactly a secret that Garcia has been eyeing the District 4 Dallas County Commission seat currently held by Kenneth Mayfield. No Hispanic has ever served on the commission. District 4’s population has seen more Hispanic voters move into areas such as Oak Cliff, DeSoto and Duncanville.

Mayfield accused former Duncanville mayoral candidate Rose Renfroe of trying to take advantage of that trend during her 2006 campaign for the Distric 4 seat. Renfroe was listed as “Rosita” on the ballot during the Democratic primary, and some pundits felt that was how she pulled off the upset. Renfroe has thrown her hat into the ring for the 2010 Democratic primary also.

With Democrats taking more seats nationally and locally (including the Dallas County Sheriff and DA offices), this could be Mayfield’s toughest battle yet.

So, Who’s Tweeting Around Here?

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

It’s really easy to offend someone while discussing today’s social media. I have already learned that “So, are you a twit?” and “Have you twittered your spouse today?” are not the proper ways to ask that question.

It seems that every day there is a new, hip, supercool site that everyone has to join and Twitter’s one of the big ones. The cities of DeSoto and Lancaster are already on Twitter, as am I. Dang it, now that I’ve made a big deal out of that, I’m going to have to make it more interesting.

But it’s yet another way to keep in touch and let everybody know what you and your friends are up to. If you’re tweeting, feel free to let us know and we’ll follow you. See, that almost sounded stalkerish. Social media is hard.
